About Us In forming the Camino Real Angels' we agreed our mission was to provide opportunities where our members could realize excellent financial returns by investing in early-stage companies located in the Paso del Norte Region and by helping them obtain market leadership.

Most venture capital firms no longer serve the seed capital market. The Camino Real Angels provide seed and early-stage capital in the range up to $2M.

Business and financial leaders of our community, who have funded and built successful companies, make up our membership. We are involved investors that mentor and coach the entrepreneurs with which we invest. We serve on their boards, provide contacts, and assist with team building, strategic planning and fundraising.

Funding Startups Companies just starting out, many with great potential, don't need more than a half to $2 million to get started. During the past few years, as venture capital funds have become larger their minimum deal size has correspondingly increased to the point where few VC's today consider financings of less than $3-5 million. Our goal is to fill this void for the Paso del Norte Region. Our funding and assistance allow a startup to launch its business and accomplish critical milestones that will make it attractive for a larger venture capital financing.

Mentoring Our member angels work closely with the new entrepreneur to refine his or her strategy and positioning, help clarify their business plan, prepare a presentation, and resolve issues related to financing. We are able to assist in structuring the terms of a deal and provide extensive help to the entrepreneur after making an investment. Our members may serve as directors or in an advisory capacity, and are available to provide coaching to the management team. We maintain close relationships with venture capital firms, service providers and universities, and can facilitate access to talent, technology and other resources needed to build a successful venture.

Meetings and Structure The Camino Real Angels have developed a dinner meeting concept to hear companies present funding requests, socialze and conduct other business.

Extensive due diligence must be performed on a company before it is presented at a dinner meeting. In most cases a term sheet will have been agreed upon, and two or more members will have committed to invest. A high percentage of companies that make it to this stage are funded, although individual members typically invest in fewer than 10% of all deals funded.

Our angel organization is not a fund and does not invest as a group. Our members collaborate on due diligence, but make individual investment decisions and understand that investments in early-stage, privately held ventures are risky and can be highly illiquid. A Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary/Treasurer and a Board of Governors govern the Camino Real Angels.
